Notes have a place

Knowledge base, part 4 of 4

Until now a note lived only inside whatever held it — a project, an area, a task, the inbox. To find one you had to remember where you put it. There is now a place that lists them all, and it is not a folder tree.

What’s new

Notes, in the sidebar. Next to Inbox and Today there is now Notes (or press g then n). It shows every note you own in four views, each answering a different question.

Recent — what you are working on. Your notes newest first, so the one you were writing this morning is at the top.

Orphans — what is quietly fading. A note with no links in or out that nobody has touched for a month appears here. Nothing is deleted and nothing nags; the list simply makes the fading visible. Open one and link it somewhere, or let it go.

By container — the same grouping the sidebar uses. Each area and project with its notes, folded closed, plus an Inbox group for notes filed nowhere yet. A note kept under a task is listed with the task’s project.

Most linked — the notes the rest of your writing keeps returning to. Counted by links in and out, these are the notes that may be turning into something bigger than a note. Area suggestions may already have said so.

Archived stays out of the way. Notes inside archived areas and projects are hidden until you tick the box at the top of the page to show them.

How it works

The page reads the copy of your graph the app already has in the browser, so it opens instantly and never asks the server a question. “Linked” means the same connections the Links panel on each note shows — a link written in a note’s text, in either direction. “A month” is thirty days since the note was last saved.
